Physician Assistant Job Description

Position Summary

The Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner performs expert-level duties for our Primary Care patients, with a strong emphasis on patient care delivery and chronic disease management.
This role includes conducting comprehensive patient interviews, obtaining medical histories, performing initial and periodic physical exams, evaluating patient behaviors, ordering and interpreting diagnostic studies, and developing both short- and long-term treatment plans.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job 

  • Perform physical examinations and document preventative health measures

  • Take and review patients' medical histories

  • Manage patient treatment plan

  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests; such as radiology tests and blood tests

  • Make diagnoses concerning a patient's injury and illness

  • Perform minor surgeries (sutures, toe nail removals, wart removal, etc)

  • Prescribe medications as needed

  • Facilitate referrals, consultations, therapeutic services, etc.

  • Record patient's progress

  • Educate and counsel patients and their families about diagnosis and treatment

  • Counsel patients on preventive care

  • Research the latest treatments to ensure the quality of patient care

  • Document patient chart and other documents as appropriate

  • Consult with Supervising Physician

Experience

  • Strong understanding of core adult and geriatric medicine techniques

  • National Provider Identifier (NPI), or ability to obtain one prior to employment start date, and meet current Medicare billing requirements

  • Demonstrated skill, knowledge, and ability essential for successful performance of assigned duties

  • Writing skills to prepare clear medical reports, laboratory data and progress notes

  • Skill to clearly communicate medical information to a broad variety of people, both in person and over the telephone

  • Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties

  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job

  • Expertise and appropriate physical exam skills

  • Experience in working with patients undergoing single and combined modality treatment plans

Education

Graduate of a Nurse Practitioner or Physician’s Assistant Program

  • Current Physician Assistant licensure or Nurse Practitioner

  • DEA License

  • Basic Life Support (BLS/ACLS) Certification

  • At least 2 years of experience in related field
